John C. Smith

John C. Smith, 80, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at AHC of Dyersburg in Dyersburg, Tennessee.

Born Monday, March 13, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late John Joseph Smith and the late Anna Graf Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired correctional officer at West Tennessee Corrections.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Mr. Smith was also a  former police officer in Chicago, Illinois. He loved to fish and go to antique cars shows, he attended the Chicago Auto Show every year.  The times he treasured most were spending time with family playing board games and making memories.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the Chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.  Officiating the service will be Rev. Ronnie Turner.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg, Tennessee.  Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty-three years, Shirley Jean French Smith of Dyersburg, Tennessee; one son, Jeff Smith (Becky) of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Lillian "Cricket" Jamison (Chad) of Newbern, Tennessee and he was "Grandpa" to his seven grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Jessica Finn, Hali Rackley, Teo Rackley, Elizabeth Merritt, David Smith, Ellyn Smith and ten great grandchildren.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jason Scott Smith and one sister, Judith Rojewski.

Honoring Mr. Smith as pallbearers will be Thomas Finn, Josh Stewart, Bradley Owen, Rob Owen, Eric Hathcock, and Benjamin French.
